How can I change my navel piercing?

I got my navel pierced back in Oct 06 (8months) I want to remove it and change it into a different piercing.

Is it ok to remove it now?
How do I remove it, do I twist the top or bottom?
Which jewellery is ok to wear after 8 months?
How fast would the hole close, and it is easy to stick another jewerlly in yourself?

'll assume by your question, you have a curved barbell. Both ends unscrew, if one doesn't want to undo, try the other end.

You can change your jewelry now, just don't leave it out for very long.

You can wear a curved barbell, captive bead ring or circular barbell. Make sure you get good quality jewelry (Surgical steel or titanium)

If you're nervous about doing the change yourself, go down to your local piercing studio (you can also buy new jewelry there) for the change. You can see how it's done for future changes.

it is realy easy! i got mine peirced in december 06. i changed it in february with absolutely no difficulty. it does not hurt at all. i even took it out for about half an hour left with no peircing in, and it went in easy as. so no worries.
it depends on the bar/ring, but just hold onto both top ball and bottom ball and twist in opposite direction, one of the balls will unscrew.
the most important thing is when you put the peircing back in, twist the ball on very hard, or else it may undo itself. i have recently learnt this.
but otherwise, you should have no troubles.

you should be fine to change it now, and the top ball twists off! i havent left mine out for over a day, and i wouldnt risk taking it out for any longer than you have to, everyone heals differently. it might be hard to get it out the first time, i remember mine was twisted on there really tight and it took me a few tries to get it off
